Titled ‘Geelong’s Past, Today’s Voices’, the project is a series of 31 podcasts issued daily during the Festival month of October.
Each podcast has memories of past Geelong read by contemporary celebrities. These are 5-6 minute reminiscences that were previously submitted to past Seniors Festivals but now read by Geelong’s top actors, radio personalities, city leaders and surprise celebrities.
As each speaker’s identity is not revealed until after their reading, the concept is promoted as ‘History With A Touch Of Mystery’. The range of celebrities is wide, from our city’s politicians and police officers to our awarded actors, writers and entertainers. There are even Covid-era heroes in a virologist and an aged-care nurse.
Their stories are about growing up in Geelong from the 1920s through to the depression 1930s, wartime 1940s and revival 1950s. The series makes a fascinating window into our region’s past.
