As of June 1st, social gathering restrictions in the state of Victoria were eased further by the State Government. Advice from the Department of Health and Human Services states that the number of funeral and memorial service attendees has now increased from 20 mourners last month to 50, plus essential funeral staff. There is currently no advice regarding a difference in the number of attendees indoors to outdoors.
How this applies to the Geelong Crematorium Chapel
The size of the Crematorium Chapel is 110m2, meaning that this space can accommodate 27 people, including the staff required to facilitate the service.
A TV screen in the entrance lounge can link to the main chapel to allow for this room to be used as a separate extension to the chapel. The size of the lounge is 88m2, which means that the space can accommodate an additional 15 people. Given the shape of the room, when placing chairs to abide by the 4m2 rule or without chairs.
Geelong Cemeteries Trust have also erected a professional marquee at the front of the chapel, complete with an outdoor TV screen and seating. By opening the doors to the chapel, giving access to the marquee, this overflow area, combined with the chapel will accommodate the maximum of 50 mourners.
To summarise: the chapel (27 people) plus the entrance lounge (15 people) allows for 42 people in total (including staff required to facilitate the service).
The chapel (27 people including staff required to facilitate the service) plus the undercover marquee outdoor area allows for 50 mourners plus staff required to facilitate the service.
Please note: For now, Geelong Cemeteries Trust will no longer be allowing back to back bookings at the crematorium chapel. All bookings will be separated by a 30-minute block to allow for the required cleaning and sanitising between services.
The administration offices of the Trust in Geelong and Colac will be open to meet families by appointment only. Please contact us to arrange an appointment.
